Opening on 22 May at the Centro de Artes Villa Portela (CAVP), in Leiria (PT), is the exhibition “Corpo – Fantasma”: Works from the State Contemporary Art Collection.
Curated by Marta Espiridião, the exhibition brings together works by 28 artists represented in the State Contemporary Art Collection — including João Gabriel — and centres on the idea of “spectrality”. The curatorial proposal invites us to think of the ghost as a metaphor that invokes what has already passed while simultaneously announcing what is yet to come.
The exhibition occupies several rooms in the main building of the municipal complex that Leiria dedicates to contemporary art, and will remain on display until the end of August.
