'This is a shot' presents a group of works from the Serralves Collection, bringing together recent acquisitions and works not yet shown in the Museum. Taking its title from a line in Hito Steyerl's work Abstract, the exhibition draws on multiple meanings of the word ‘shot’—the framing of a camera, the firing of a gun, an unexpected opportunity, an urgent endeavor—exploring different approaches to a world in flux.
Occupying the entire lower floor of the Álvaro Siza Wing, the exhibition includes works from different periods, geographies and media that confront the volatility of today's world, touching on pressing issues of our time: the fragility of territory and belonging, the violence of war and displacement, the urgency of the climate crisis and democratic struggles, the saturation of the virtual world, and the dissolution of collective memory.
Curated by Isabel Braga and Joana Valsassina, the exhibition includes the work ‘Cruzeiro do Sul’ by Marlon de Azambuja and opens on 14 May 2025 at the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art in Porto (PT).
