Bugio Radio-Station is an experimental and speculative radio station for marine and atmospheric conservation and monitoring, located at the confluence of the Tagus River and the Atlantic Ocean, within the municipality of Oeiras. This project is a proposal by artists Diana Policarpo and Bernardo Gaeiras, who, starting from the distant imaginary of the Bugio Lighthouse, construct a sonic infrastructure dedicated to transmitting the ecological, physical, and social dynamics of this liminal territory, with particular attention to the invisible life forms that inhabit it, such as marine microorganisms and other imperceptible presences.
Between August and September 2025, Bugio Radio-Station will broadcast four days of transmissions composed of live soundscapes and pre-recorded interviews, recorded at the Bugio Lighthouse and in research laboratories and facilities. Through its online platform, it gathers contributions from scientists, artists, activists, and historians engaged in the care and observation of this marine territory. The live transmissions combine scientific testimonies with original soundscapes composed of field recordings, underwater frequencies, atmospheric pulses, mineral vibrations, and bioacoustic compositions created by Diana Policarpo and Bernardo Gaeiras. These contents offer insight into the deep ecology of the estuary, bringing human and non-human voices into a shared field of listening.
